Dreaming

Dreams occur during sleep and can be mental, emotional, or sensory experiences. They are most prevalent during REM sleep, when brain activity is heightened, although the exact reason for dreaming remains unknown. While dreaming is a normal and beneficial process, frequent nightmares can disrupt sleep patterns. Keeping a dream journal and waking up gradually may help in better recollecting dreams.  And that's exactly what we did for This week's activity for creativity and problem-solving. Recollecting our dreams. I will admit it was a little weird at first but as time progressed I started enjoying whatever my brain was trying to make of my thoughts and memories. Day 1 my dream was about me doing a speech about Pulp fiction and having to resit it in the movie then having to start over and over again because I could not remember the speech, I remember Tarantino (the director) becoming so upset by that. Day 2 I dreamt I was in a hit 2010s TV show Victorious and I was doing a performance with Robby one of the main characters of the show then we got arrested for singing too loud. That kind of made sense because I had watched the show before I fell asleep that night. Day 3 was a little bit foggy because I was out of sleep probably because there was a bird in my roof and guess what she had babies, so while she was in her divine motherhood era I got little to no sleep, but from what I could remember from my dream is that I was encouraging Thoriso to leave Graphic design to go to animation for some odd reason. Day 4 This dream was quite eventful, so I was asked by a fashion brand to model their clothes but America's next top model style from a falling building. I don't know what compelled me to go through with it but I did. Weird I don't remember getting the chance to see what the pictures looked like, I don't think I made it out alive. Dang. This was another dream that was in correlation to what I watched before bed.   Day 5  was another foggy dream but to my recollection, I had gone to school and a bunch of random things happened like there being a dance battle, one of my friends losing their phones and it snowing. wild. And those were my dreams for the week, do you recollect your dreams?

Pulp Fiction

pulp/pʌlp/ a soft, wet, shapeless mass of material.

Cheap pulp paper was used for the pages of the original pulp magazines, made in the 1890s and inspired  Quentin Tarantion's Pulp Fiction a film that contains  numerous references to other films using a non-linear timeline and following a course of events that escalate spontaneously, depicted through; gangsterism, violence, sex, crime and drugs. I could argue that it not being in cohesive/chronological order, it could perhaps be alluding to the fact that like violence it is senseless and thus has no order in any manner for instance in the the second scene with Jules and Vincent (the two hitmen in the film ) killed two men in cold blood for reasons we never find out about. Tieing it back to the unpredictable nature of death and violence there could never be a good reason for a person to die and yet people still die. Morality, Character arcs and redemption are the main themes in the film as we follow the story of a Boxer, a drug lord's wife, and two hitmen who just do life with well-written dialogue and interesting cinematography. An artwork about art. This was a film we watched for film appreciation and throughout the duration of the film a whirlwind of emotions was expressed in class from hysterical laughter to tense silence to complete and utter shock. Overall a brilliant film that anyone would find to be an interesting watch.

Time

I shape every life, carve lines on faces, and turn the new into old. I am relentless, yet I am cherished. Time is an indefinite, continued progress of existence. It is ironic how time serves as both the problem and the solution; we never seem to have enough of it, yet we strive to create more. This past week, we delved into time management and the different ways we can effectively utilize our time. This involves Time Sense, essentially estimating how long a task would take, goal setting, standard shifting; which is adjusting your standards according to your circumstance and how it changes, time planning; which is outlining in advance the tasks you would need to get done in a certain time frame, and, most importantly to me, recognizing procrastination—the greatest thief of time. Procrastination is the enemy of progress, but its power is only as strong as the amount you allow it by how you postpone. I learned in that lesson that time is literally money, so I shouldn't waste it. One effective way to manage this is by structuring your life through to-do lists or schedules, where tasks stare back at you, enabling you to take action. In my opinion, the concept of time keeps each and every one of us accountable because if it had never existed ambition, goals and dreams would cease to exist as well. A world without time would be a world without growth so cherish it because you do not know how much of it you have left.

Perspective

The year was 2007, the 23rd of October when the internet broke out in a huge debate when a meme depicting two men arguing over a figure drawn on the ground which could either be a 6 or a 9. This image represented the idea of perspective and relativism showing that without context either one of their claims could have been correct depending on how you look at it. Which brings me to the lesson we had with Mr. Mark based on perspective a technique for representing three-dimensional space on a flat surface, Similar to the meme one could argue that three-dimensional drawings are still two-dimensional as they are on a flat surface but that's a conversation for another day. This class felt like a magic show with the class being filled with ouus and ahhhs at the sight of Mr. Mark turning the simple line into objects that could actually be in the same room as us or creating rooms that make you feel drawn to enter into. During the lesson we learned to draw boxes from the vanishing points on the horizon line. It seems simple right-wrong it was a tedious task that needed focus and understanding of the box anatomy because the minute the box flipped and it did not make sense, it meant the rules on perspective were not respected and we had to start again. So unlike the meme with either number being correct, a perspective drawing needs to make the same sense it would if it was looked at from a different perspective.
